Austin’s Carnaval Celebration

Mark your calendars for February 1st, 2014. This is the night of Carnaval in Austin, Texas. The event is one of the biggest Brazilian Carnaval celebrations outside of Brazil itself. Carnaval is held annually at the Palmer Event Center and attracts visitors from all over the Austin area–as well as around the world. This year the party starts at 8pm and lasts until 1:30am–with many continuing their celebrations around town afterward.

The Austin Carnaval got its start in the 1970’s as a very small event when Brazilian students at UT wanted a chance to celebrate what is one of the biggest holidays and events in their home country. The event grew and started attracting the attention of locals who enjoyed the fun and excitement of the party.

Today, Carnaval is a huge party that attracts musicians from around the world. It is a must-do event for anyone who has ever wanted to experience Carnaval but can’t quite make the trip to Brazil.
