Large Field for 37th Cap10K in Austin

Since 1978, the Capitol 10,000 has been one of the biggest and best 10K road races in Texas. 2014 will be no exception to its long, proud history. The 37th annual Statesman Capitol 10,000 will raise money for SafePlace, dedicated to ending sexual and domestic violence.

Starting with 3,400 runners in its first running, the Cap10K has ballooned to over 18,000 participants last year. Over 17,500 runners registered for the 2013 race, but that number swelled by another 1,000 runners by race day.  This year’s event, scheduled for April 6, will cover a familiar route in downtown Austin.

The field seems to get stronger every year attracting high-level competitors. Former University of Texas cross country and track star, Betzy Jimenez, was last year’s women’s winner by only six seconds, as she faced stiff competition. David Glickler has been a fixture in the Cap10K for around 20 years and completed another run in 2013.

In addition to the 10K, there are additional related events.  This year the Cap Kids Run will take place on April 5. All registered participants in the Statesman Cap Kids School Challenge get a T-shirt, race number and race guide. Also, don’t forget the Cap10K Health & Fitness Expo on April 4 and 5.
