Flood Insurance & Texas: The Two Go Hand-in-Hand

Flood insurance isn’t for everybody. If you live in the middle of the Arizona desert or at the top of a mountain range, chances are you don’t need flood insurance. If, however, you live in the great state of Texas, you might just want to look into it.

The San Antonio River Authority reports that Texas has about half of the world records for rainfall rates occurring in 48 hours or less. According to the National Weather Service, South Central Texas is one of the areas most prone to flash-flooding in the United States. Why is this? It has to do with geography and geology. Basically Texas, particularly South Central Texas, is a perfect place for storms to come and stall, dumping their rain continuously for days on end.

What this means to you, as a Texas homeowner, is that you are going to want to consider flood insurance. Bear in mind that normal homeowners insurance won’t cover flood losses, so flood insurance from a reputable carrier like Central Insurance Agency is the best way to get the coverage you need to protect your belongings.
